XXXXXXXXX

It was a cold day. Outside, a light snowfall covered the streets with a wet, white blanket, and the windows were covered with frost. All that did nothing to dampen the Christmas spirit though, as shoppers bustled about, peering into glass displays, where Christmas decorations glittered prettily. It was that season again, where everybody went out on a shopping spree before returning home for a feast of turkey and an exchange of presents by the hearth.

For a certain Hyotei captain, he was doing nothing of the aforementioned. instead, he was at the beach. Sunbathing.

Make no mistake. It was winter, and there was snow everywhere. Also, make no mistake that Atobe was sunbathing at the beach. To clarify, he was in one of the indoor beaches his family owned, and currently, he was surrounded by sun, sand...and Hyotei regulars.

Indeed. Atobe hated the Christmas season. Ever since his childhood days, this day reminded him of huge, empty rooms filled with nothing but expensive presents meant to offer material comfort, but nothing else. His parents were never around, and his servants served as much purpose for emotional comfort as those suits of armor which decorated his hallways.

Needless to say, when it came to this day, Atobe would do anything to avoid thinking of the season. This place was perfect. No snow. No artifical lights. No Christmas trees. No presents. Of course, it would be lonely if he were to be the only one here, so he made it compulsary for all his regulars to be here too, and of course, the words of the Hyotei king were law.

Somewhere to his right, Oshitari and Gakuto were building a sandcastle. Hiyoshi was practicing enbu tennis moves a distance away, and Jirou had fallen asleep on the sand, and was getting fried to a crisp while he was at it.

To his left, Shishido was grumbling, being grumpy ever since he had arrived for being dragged away from what could have been a nice dinner at a certain someone's house. Ootori was trying to cheer him up, though it didn't seem like his efforts were too effective, for Shishido continued with his grumbling.

Atobe finally turned his attention to the person standing right next to him. Kabaji stood there, as still as a sentinel, not moving from the spot ever since he had deployed the umbrella and the beach chair for Atobe. The diva sipped leisurely on the glass of punch Kabaji had brought him too. Yes. Today was an absolutely perfect day.

After some time, Atobe looked up when Shishido walked over. "We've been here for an hour already. I'm leaving." The cap-wearing boy stated irritibly, turning around and walking away right after he said that.

Atobe folded his arms. "Oh? You have some nerve to leave before ore-sama does. Well, I suppose Ootori-kun could use a different doubles partner in the upcoming tournament."

Shishido froze immediately. He rounded up on Atobe, looking pissed. "Teme! Why do we have to take orders from you? If you want to come here then do so yourself. Don't drag us into this!"

"Orders? I didn't say anything. It's up to you if you want to stay or leave." Atobe smirked.

Before Shishido could explode, Ootori placed a hand on his shoulder soothingly. "It's alright, Shishido-san. Let's try to enjoy it since we're here already."

Shishido gave a soft ch, muttered "gekidasa" and followed Ootori.

Atobe swirled his glass of punch briefly, watching the two leave. Oshitari always said that Ootori was whipped by his doubles partner. It seemed that the reverse applied too, by the looks of it. He threw a sideglance at Kabaji. Well, he'd have his sophomore thoroughly whipped too.

Another hour passed. By now, his regulars did seem anxious to leave. The sandcastle Oshitari and Gakuto built was now almost at their height. Hiyoshi was getting cramps from so much gekokujou-ing, Jirou was as red as a tomato, and the Silver pair were running their 50th lap along the beach. Only Kabaji remained unmoving during the whole hour.

He looked up to see Shishido marching towards him again, with Ootori right behind him, and the cap-wearing boy was, if possible, even more infuriated than before. Atobe could see a vein throbbing visibly at his head and wondered briefly if that was healthy.

"Atobe! This is ridiculous! Let us leave already!" Shishido demanded slamming his hand down on the table and causing the glass to wobble dangerously.

Atobe smirked at him. "I intend to stay for another hour. If you have any complaints...Kabaji." He snapped his fingers.

"Uisu." Kabaji picked up Shishido with one arm and carried him to the sea. No matter how Shishido struggled, he could not break free, of course. "Put me down! Atobe, don't make Kabaji do all the dirty work for you! There will come a day when he will not listen to you! At that time, I'll laugh in your face!" Shishido then dissolved into an assortment of swearwords even as he struggled in Kabaji's grip. Ootori was trying to pry Shishido out of Kabaji's grip, and the next moment Kabaji scooped him up too. There was the sound of twin splashes, and Kabaji returned to Atobe's side moments later.

"Good work, Kabaji." Atobe commented, reaching out to pat him briefly on the hand. Kabaji gave a short "usu." and went back to guard duty.

Atobe sipped his drink calmly. There should be no more objections now. Something Shishido said made him ponder though, as he looked at Kabaji briefly. Just why was the sophomore so loyal to him. As far as Atobe could remember, Kabaji had been like that shortly after he joined the tennis club, and as far as he could remember, he had not done anything for Kabaji which might lead to anything short of a life debt. Maybe Kabaji was doing all this voluntarily? Would there really come a day when Kabaji would disobey his orders?

How far would Kabaji go to anyway? Just how much could he order the sophomore around? Kabaji had never disobyed before, and Atobe had not seen him do something of his own accord, but what if there was a limit to that?

He took a look at his glass. Empty. Lifting the glass up, he gave his command. "Kabaji. I'm thirsty. Get me another drink."

"Usu." The sophomore left immediately, returning shortly with another glass of punch. So obedient. Atobe decided to try out some other commands.

"Kabaji. My umbrella is leaning over to one side a little bit. Straighten it."

"Usu." Kabaji set to work immediately.

After that, he gave Kabaji ridiculous commands such as "fetch me a seashell." or "get me a bucket of seawater" or "destroy Oshitari and Mukahi's castle.", and he did all of them promptly.

Atobe lay back against the beach chair. Shishido would never be able to have the last laugh. Kabaji was just too whipped.

Right at that moment, a couple of girls jogged past him. Yes. The Hyotei regulars were not the only ones there, since Atobe welcomed anyone who would want to escape the Christmas season too, but they were all insignificant, so he treated them like they were invisible. However, the two girls did look very pretty, and they have such huge...

The next moment, a hulking figure moved before him, blocking his view and casting a shadow over him. Atobe blinked. He scowled. "Kabaji, move aside. You're blocking my view."

Kabaji didn't say anything, and he didn't budge.

Atobe blinked. That was a start. He had expected Kabaji to get out of the way immediately. He tried again. "Kabaji! Move! You're blocking the sun and spoiling my tan."

Still no response from the sophomore. Atobe felt a mild twinge of fear, even though Atobes do not know such a word. Was Kabaji finally not listening to him?

A distance away, Shishido was pointing and laughing out loud at him, even as Ootori rubbed suntan lotion onto his arm. Atobe scowled, feeling humiliated. "Kabaji!" He barked.

At long last, the sophomore moved away, though by then, the girls had already jogged off and was at a safe distance away.

Irritated, Atobe held out a bottle of suntan lotion. "Put this on for me, Kabaji." He ordered.

"Usu." It looked like Kabaji was back to himself again, as he squeezed some of the lotion onto his palm and began to rub it onto Atobe's skin.

Kabaji's hands were nice. Once Kabaji was done with his arms and legs, Atobe rolled over to lie on his stomach, so that Kabaji could apply the lotion onto his back. His callused hands moved along his back in a firm, set motion, feeling a little like a massage, and Atobe gave a contented little moan.

Immediately, the hand stopped, and Atobe frowned. He turned over slightly and notice that Kabaji seemed to have frozen, though his poker face was unchanging. "Kabaji. Carry on. You're not done yet."

The bottle fell from Kabaji's loosened grip, landing on Atobe's back and rolling off. Without a word, Kabaji turned around and promptly fled, leaving a speechless Atobe in his wake. Shishido started laughing again.

Atobe twitched. Shishido was right after all. It had finally come to a day when Kabaji was at a rebelious stage. Somehow, he wasn't at all happy at that thought.

Half an hour passed. Kabaji did not return, and Atobe gave a sigh, getting up from the chair. He would go look for him then. How troublesome.

Heading in the same direction Kabaji had gone to, Atobe came to the restroom, which was reserved specially for the Hyotei regulars. Frowning, he wondered if Kabaji was here for so long. He opened the door and stepped in, and it was then he heard the shower running.

"Kabaji? Is that you?" He called out. There was no reply, and the only sound was the steady pour of the shower.

Wait, if that was really Kabaji in there, wouldn't that mean he had been showering for an whole half hour? What was he trying to do? Drown himself? The rebellious stage was bad enough, but this...

"Kabaji! Get out of there now!" Atobe tried to keep the panic out of his voice.

There was a squeak as the shower was turned off, and the door opened. It was Kabaji indeed. A still fully clad Kabaji, who looked like a drenched bear now.

Atobe was next to him in a flash. "You've been in there all that time? Baka Kabaji!" He scolded, even as he studied Kabaji's hands, which were a little wrinkled. "What were you thinking, Kabaji?"

The sophomore didn't say anything, as he stood there, dripping. Atobe grabbed a towel and began drying his hair immediately, though his action was stopped when Kabaji grabbed his hands. Before Atobe could even raise an eyebrow, Kabaji had leaned forwards and pressed his lips to Atobe's, causing the diva to give a muffled gasp of surprise. The sophomore was acting like a possessed man, as he continued to ravish Atobe's mouth, even as he kept Atobe in place with his bear-like grip. Abruptly, however, the sophomore broke off the kiss and let go of Atobe immediately, seemingly coming back to his senses. His eyes were wide as he looked at Atobe, who was slumped against the wall for support, his head still spinning from the kiss.

"I...I...I'm sorry, Atobe-buchou..." Kabaji tried to run off again, though Atobe had recovered enough to grab his hand, stopping him.

Atobe finally understood why Kabaji had run off earlier on. He should have known. Now at least he understood why Kabaji remained so loyal to him.

"Where do you think you're going, ahn? You're not done yet. Carry on." Atobe smirked, a challenging gleam in his eyes.

Kabaji's eyes widened for a fraction of a moment, but otherwise, his expression remained unchanging.

"Usu."

XXX

By the time they had finally returned to the beach chair, Oshitari and Gakuto had built a small village surrounding their castle, Hiyoshi was sprawled on the sand, too exhausted to continue his enbu moves anymore, Jirou was reddish-brown, and the silver pair had written a whole paragraph on the sand.

Atobe went back to sunbathing, smirking inwardly. This was turning out to be the best Christmas after all. All he needed was Kabaji.

"Kabaji. Kiss me." He ordered.

"Usu." Kabaji complied immediately.

Shishido's statement of Kabaji rebelling against him was flushed into the sea instantly, and the cap-wearing boy no longer laughed at him.

THE END
